Glitch art.

Displacement, corruption and interrupted repetition make the image appear to malfunction.

Context & origins.

Glitch art is an art movement that uses digital or analogue errors for aesthetic purposes, either by corrupting digital data or by physically manipulating electronic devices. The word glitch became attached to a genre of experimental electronic music in the mid-1990s, and shortly afterwards, as VJs and other visual artists embraced glitch as an aesthetic of the digital age, the term came to cover a range of visual arts. An early related current was net.art, including the collective JODI, which deliberately caused layout errors on its website to expose underlying code and error messages.
