Style1906Research overview

Plakatstil.

A reduced object and a commanding name make the advertising message immediately recognizable.

Also known as Sachplakat, Poster style

How to recognize it.

  1. Isolated object
  2. Large brand lettering
  3. Uncluttered background

Context & origins.

Plakatstil reduced advertising posters to a forceful relationship between a product and its name. Instead of surrounding the object with an elaborate narrative, designers emphasized its silhouette, a limited palette and prominent lettering. Sachplakat describes the closely associated object-poster approach.
